Getting started in WHM

With a Reseller plan or a VPS or Dedicated Server plan that uses cPanel, you'll be given logins to your WHM account. This guide will take you through the basics of getting your hosting platform going.

Step 1 - Log into WHM using the details you were provided. If you ever lose these details, you can contact us and we'll be able to resend them to the primary email account on file.

Step 2 - Create a Feature List. While it's possible to use the default one, on Reseller accounts you will not have access to modify the Default Feature List. We'd recommend selecting every option to be available for this feature list, to prevent confusion later.

Step 3 - Create a Package, and assign your newly created Feature List. You will only need to create one package at first, but later on you may wish to create more.

Note: Be aware of your Disk Usage and Bandwidth quota when creating packages - regardless of how much space a cPanel account actually takes up, the package indicates the amount of disk usage that is set aside for that account's sole use. If you set large package values you may find that you cannot create new hosting accounts if all your available disk usage space is already allocated to other cPanel accounts.
If you have a wide variety of sites on your hosting, we'd recommend creating packages with different Disk Usage and Bandwidth allocations. This allows you to allocate a small amount of Disk Usage to sites that may only need 500M of space, and provide more space to accounts with larger Disk Usage requirements.

Step 4 - Create a cPanel account, and assign your newly created Package.

You will now have a new cPanel account tied to your primary account. If needed you can migrate a website from another server using this manual migration guide or this guide to migrate from another cPanel account.

You can also take the following optional steps:

Step 5 - Update DNS so your domain loads live from this server. If your Nameservers point externally, you may want to set up new Nameservers (as in Step 7) or manage your DNS at that external point.

Step 6 - Issue a free Auto SSL Certificate. On our reseller plans, LetsEncrypt can be disabled if you want to resell this feature to your clients. For VPSs and Dedicated Servers you also have the option of choosing your AutoSSL provider.

Step 7 - Create Whitelabel Nameservers for your primary domain.

Finally, these steps could be useful in future:

Step 8 - If needed, you can change the passwords of your individual cPanel accounts by following this guide.

Step 9 - You can upgrade and downgrade the assigned resources for each cPanel account using this guide.
